A February tradition
Feb. 16th, 2012 11:07 am... that I believe I've picked up at the BookCrossing forums: February is Empty the pantry-month. This means that something from your food storage should be used up in every meal. Using more than one item in a single meal scores extra feel-good points.
The purpose, of course, is to use stuff up before it goes bad.
How are we doing so far this year? Not very well. That's because we've been at the hackerspace a lot, and then we'll often eat there, which usually means ready-made meals from the supermarket. Those can be quite good these days (especially the variety with fresh vegetables and meat or fish in a packing that allows you to steam-cook it in the microwave) but there is less home cooking going on. So maybe we should keep going in March, too.
It's a fun and practical tradition, and it leads to interesting meal choices, so I thought I'd pass it on.
